Marshalls Atoll BY U.S. NAVAL ’PLANES. (Rec. 10.40.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 24. Carrier-based 'planes of the United States Pacific Fleet twice attacked an atoll in the Marshall Islands that is hold by the Japanese, and more than thirty tons of bombs were dropped on three islands of the atoll, says the Pacific Fleet communique. On the first island fires were started m two hangars. A radio station was compljetely demolished,. Barracks and ammunition storage areas were hit. On a second island, ground installations were bombed and strafed. Oir the third island, dock areas, radio facilities and a power station were hit. Several American ’planes were damaged by flak. None was shot flown. There was no fighter interception.
