Eight Vessels Hit (Rec. 9.40.) SYDNEY, Feb. 25. Once more large forces of Allied Solomons based ’planes which raided Rabaul’s harbour and aerodromes met no Japanese fighter opposition. More than a hundred ’planes took part, in this, the forty-third raid of the year on Rabaul made on Tuesday morning. More than 160 tons of bombs were dropped, direct hits being scored on eight vessels. Several barges in Keravia Bay were sunk. Two of the ships were left burning. It is reported from the South Pacific Headquarters that 790 Japanese planes have been shot down over Rabaul from December 12 to February 20, for the loss of 151 Allied machines.
