High Tides, Port of .Westport:
a.m. p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 05.49 06.24 WESTPORT, Dec. 21. The Titoki sailed for Nelson and the Te Aroha for Little Wanganui yesterday. The Karepo is due from Greymouth .to complete loading for Auckland.
Mr. C. M. Walshe, of Cape Foulwind, passed both written and practical tests in the annual examination for electrical wiremen.
Miss B. Rodgers of Hastings, arrived by Nelson car last evening to spend Christmas vacation with hexparents. Mrs. T. M. Storev of Wellington is visiting friends in Westport. The death of Mr. David Swainnie took place in the Buller Hospital early yesterday morning. Mr. Swannie was born in Westport 65 years ago and was vei’v well known in the district. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Paton and Miss B. Swannie and a- brother Alex Swannie, all of Auckland. The death occurred at his residence Little Wanganui, yesterday of Cyrix Frederick Turk, aged 50 years, who had resided in the Karamea district for man-v years havino- carried on a butchery business and latterlv farming Deceased is survived by his wife and an adult family to whom the sympathy of the conxmunitv will oe extended. • National Savings investments ’-n the Westport district for the penoo ended Decmbr 18th, 1943 were as follows: Westport £129 3s; Denniston £BO 2s: Granitv and Millerton £6 Is; Karamea £42 13s; total £257 19s. Mr. H. McKeowen presided at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Boys’ Boxing Association and the members present were Messrs A. V. Hawes, L. Hawes, .R. Millett, R. Hawes, L. W. Champion, J. Clayton, N. Comerford, M. Coyne, L Dalzel. J. Rayner and the secretary R. Boyes. Cash donations were received from Messrs T. Slee, W. Spence and W. S. Clarke and cuds were donated bv Messrs A. Colvin, W. Howard, C. Howard and R. •by. Minature cups for the annual trophies presented by Railway Workshops, Don Campbell and Geo. Newman, were also received. The committee wish to gratefully acknowledge these trophies. The officers emoted were: Announcer. Mr. M. B. Scully, referees, Messrs L. O’Neill, T. Phibbs, and W. Wilson: -judges, Messrs C. Thomas and F. Higgins: time-keeper, W. Keesing: gong, T. Marr; nudge of the most scientific boxer, Mr. McEnaney.
