SCIENCE BURSARIES
OFFERED AT N.Z. UNIVERSITY.
F.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. “To overcome to some extent, at least, a shortage of science teachers in post-primary schools, a limited number of special bursaries in science will be available, under the usual conditions of educational bursaries regulations, to suitable applicants as from the beginning of 1944,” said Hon. H. G. R. Mason, in a statement. “The bursaries in science will be tenable at any University college, but the holders must enter on a course for the degree of bachelor of science. The value of the bursary, (inclusive of a boarding allowance of forty pounds payable only if the bursar is obliged to live away from heme to pursue his studies) will be seventy pounds yearly. All applications for science bursaries must oe received by the Director of Education by January 15. Applicants must nave passed the University entrance examination or some equivalent examination, or have received a higher leaving certificate. Preference will be given to applicants showing special proficiency in mathematics and science.
