CAR FATALITY
Two Men Charged DUNEDIN, Dec. 16. In the City Polic Court this afternoon, before Mr J'. R. Bartholomew, S.M., William Thomas Small, aged 23, a bushman, of Lumsden, and Manson McCormick, aged 33, a salesman of Sumner, Christchurch, were charged with negligently driving a car at Invercargill on December 14 and thereby caching the death of Roberta Fotheringham. Senior Detective Hall, who reoresented the police, said the case arose out of the death of a young woman cyclist at Waikiwi, just outside Invercargill, on Tuesday night. The girl had been struck by a car and left Wing on. the roadside. The two accused had been arrested in Dunedin today. and he asked for a remand to enable the case to be heard at Invercargill on Monday. Mr Mark Hanan, who appeared for the accused, said McCormick was a married man with two children, who lived in Christchurch, and there were a number of business matters requiring his attention. Although in charge of the car, he had not been driving at the time of the accident. He asked that the accused should be granted bail. Bail was refused. Both accused were remanded to annear at Invercargill on Monday.
