KUMARA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent]. The recent rain over the last few days will have a beneficial effect, on. gardens, besides replenishing the tank water supply. Numerous suportei’s of the Racing Club have been busy giving a goon coating of sand to the race track, where it was most needed. Several horses are in training on the local course.
Mrs. J. Comport presided at the meeting of the Women’s Institute on Wednesday afternoon, there being a good attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. Fahey. A “Golden Thread” talk, “New Zealand Industries,” was given by Mrs. McNabb. A letter from the Red Cross asked members’ co-operation in securing dried mint. A song by Mrs McNabb, “A White Christmas,” was well received. Competitions were: Best Bloom, Miss Hamer 1; Mrs. Reedy 2. Best Christmas Novelty. Miss Hamer 1; Mrs Reedy 2. Mrs, Fahey won a guessing competition. The party for children was commenced after school hours, when Santa Claus distributed presents to all the children. Games were enjoyed by all present. Ice cream and soft drinks were donated by Mrs. Caithness, Senr. The committee were hostesses. 1
