1 NATIONAL CONFERENCE HOUSING POLICY. WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. ■ Hon. R. Semple, Works Minister, expressed satisfaction at the results of a national conference just held her e of representatives of employers and workers engaged in the building industry, more particularly the bdilding of homes for the people. The Minister said the. conference discussed matters affecting manpower, allocation, utilisation, materials, and the allocation of contracts. A motion was carried making certain recommendations to the Minister of Works respecting building permits, the allocation of work, and essentiality and general uniformity of policy. Wher e practicable, Mr Semple said, these recommendations would be given the fullest consideration at the earliest opportunity. The conference passed the follwoing resolution: “That, having heard the Minister outline the nature of the problem confronting the Dominion and the important task w'hich the building and construction industry has to fulfil, we recognise that the achievement will be commensurate with the extent to which all sections of the industry co-operate and assist in the co-ordination of the resources of the industry in the achievement of a national plan based on the people’s interests. We, the members of the National and- Local Building Committees pledge ourselves to support the Government in its aims and to work unceasingly together to ensure theii’ realisation.”
