[Our Own Correspondent]. Mr J. Brownlie is still a patient in the Westport Hospital and his condition remains much about the same. Mr A. McArthur, delegate to the United Mine Workers’ Conference, left on Monday en route to Wellington. via Lyttelton. Mrs H. L. Evans returned on Saturday after spending holidays in New Plymouth with her mother, Mrs J. Williams. Messrs W. Burns and H. Campbell iwere visitors fo Christchurch during the week-end. Mrs E. Gilmour and daughter were visitors to Westport on Saturday. Mr C. Ladner is receiving treatment in the Buller Hospital. Mrs S. Chippendale has returned after spending a brief period in the Buller Hospital. The monthly meeting of the Ngakawau Miners’ Union was held in the Stockton Hall on Sunday. Mr F. Connew presided. Regarding Mr N. Morgan’s compensation claim, a comprehensive report was given by the chairman, and the executive will continue to do all in its power to establish the claim. A report from the Buller Miners’ Central Committee was given by Messrs F. Connew and F. Ireland, and the nature of the remits forwarded to the National Council of the United Mine Workers was placed before the meeting. Regarding the remit claiming the rate for all winchmen of 26s lOd per day as paid to main haulage drivers, this matter was not in the list of remits, but was subsequently sent along to the National Council representative for Buller, Mr A. McArthur, who will bring it before the conference in Wellington on Tuesday. Mr McArthur was also instructed to inform the National Council that the Ngakawau Miners’ Union strongly protested against the leader of the British Fascists, Sir Oswald Mosley, being released from gaol. At the conclusion of the., Union meeting membersJof the Union contributing to the Checkweigh Fund held a meeting to deal with the financial position of the organisation. A report, regarding Stockton representation on the Buller Trades Council will be finalised at the first available opportunity.'/
