RAID BY MARINES. SYDNEY, Dec. 3. At Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Island, Northern Solomons, American troops made a daring night raid behind the Japanese lines destroying ammunition and store dumps. They also inflicted casualties on the Japanese leaving behind more than two hundred enemy killed (Rec. 9.50.) SYDNEY, Dec. 3. United States Marine s at Empress Aucusta Bay, Bougainville Island, landed from boats to make a daring nin-ht hit-and-run raid on nearby Japanese positions. As well as killing two hundred Japanese they destroyed quantities of artillery, ammunition, small arms and other supplies. Their own losses were light. Admiral Halsey’s aircraft are maintainino, an incessant pounding o Japanese aerodrome in the Northern Solomons. Some of these airfields have been kept unserviceable lor more than five weeks.
