GREYMOUTH TROTTING CLUB REVIEW OF TO-DAYS CARD. The Spring Meeting ol the Gieymout.h Trolling Club will commence to-day. Well-balanced helds aie engaged throughout the eaid and everything points to this progressive club’ eclipsing all previous records. The win and place system ol betting will be in use and the following may give a line on the prospects. Petrie Handicap. Jimmy Wharton was three times second last season one of these placings being at Victoria Park. His form at his last start, when second to Worthy Addition at Ashburton in June, was particularly . good. He ls the genuine type, and a good beginner a big asset on the local track. Compris has threatened to win a race for a long time and is a place prospect. Hop Off impressed at Wellington and the experience gained will improve him. The four-year-old Rerewaka will have friends. He is a full-brother to Bomber. Little Heio is having his first start, while the remainder off the limit have not shown any form. Vice. Ivegal from 36 yards behind was third to Forewarned and Silver Plane on a heavy track at South Auckland. Maximum also starts off 36 and js reported to be trotting well in his work. Blackdale who begins, from 48 yards won at his first public appearance, /then a ;second, followed, by five unplaced performances. When the final figures go up Jimmy Wharton may be the public’s fancy with support for Rerewaka and Vice Regal. Midland Handicap. Of those off the front Rivette, who was a good third in the maiden event at Addington a fortnight ago and Horatio Nelson, fourth m the same event, look like making a return. Wee Logan was third in the N.Z. Champion Stakes for three-year-olds in 3.19 1-5 and second at Wellington in the autumn over 11 miles in 2.45 3-5. If he could be relied on to go away correctly he would win, but he is inclined to make a mis-step at the start. Lady Bligh and Prince Lytton look to hold the best chance of the remainder on the end. Sponsor on 12yds and Vai Rey off 24 make up the field but their recent form does not suggest they will take a hand in the finish. Final fancies may be Rivette, Wee Logan and Horatio Nelson.

Diggers’ Handicap. I There are some good milers en- ( gaged in this event, and luck in the draw may have a bearing on the result. Of those off the scratch mark, Lockheed, in view of his winning effort in the Maiden race at the National carnival and his third last week at Timaru, should be favourite. Most opposition may come from Gold Sheik who performed well in the trials held al New Brighton this week and during his three-year-old career was second in the Riccarton Stakes to Scottish Lady. Of the others First Royal and Pocket Book both good beginners, and Hargood’s •Pride giving away 12yds, appear to have the best chances. Summed up it looks like Lockheed with most danger from Gold Sheik and Hargood’s Pride. Mawhera Handicap. Of the seven off the limit Top Hand, a winner at Addington recently, Scottish Lady and Bulldozer read best On the 24 yard mark is Silhouette and Native Man and in the light of her convincing run at New Brighton during the week, Silhouette is the 'logical choice, though if the going is heavy Native Man on the same mark would have a great chance. Jerry Parrish who will be bracketed with Bankstock starts off ’ 60 yards, a big handicap in a race of this class. In what should prove to be a most interesting; contest Top Hand is the likely choice with backing for Silhouette and Scottish Lady. Royal Oak Handicap All those engaged in the Petrie Handicap are down to compete in this event, and form in the Petrie should be a good guide here. However, among those likely to be in the monev are Jimmy Wharton, Vice Regal and Maximum. Blaketown Handicap Here again form will be exposed by the performances in the Midland Handicap and among those who may be in it at the judge are Horatio Nelson, Lady Bligh and Wee Lagon. Advance Handicap One whose prospects appeal as a stayer is My Lady Luck, the fullsister to Pacing Power. Silver Flash has been placed at Victoria Park in the same class over 12 furlongs and he should see the journey out. The best of the others may be Claremorris and Pocket Book. At the final ring My Lady Luck should be best backed, 'with support for SilverFlash and Claremorris.. Dash Handicap. The final race finds some up and coming sprinters carded to race and it appears the most open event on the card. Golden Shadow looks . like holding the others on the limit safe. On 12vds is Jill who won here last January and she must be given a chance. Air Speed and In the Mood both start from 24yds and these two are likely to be in it at the finish. Air Speed showed outstanding ability in her previous races here, while In the Mood was second to Top Hand 4t the recent New Brighton meeting in 2.42 1-5 over a mile and a quarter, smart time for one in her class. A trio likely to be sought after are Golden Shadow, In the Mood and Air Speed.
