Opera House Finally To-night: “Syncopation” & “Laugh Your Blues Away.” Next Attraction (commences Friday): “The Adventures of Martin Eden” & “Bowery Blitzkreig.” “ADVENTURES OF MARTIN EDEN” Out of Jack London’s brawling, lusty, hot-blooded masterpiece, Columbia Pictures has produced “Adventures of Martin Eden,” the thrill teeming romance with Glenn Ford, Claire Trevor, Evelyn Keyes and Stuart Erwin. Wind-lashed, terrortorn drama of a two-fisted he-man who made his mark from Tahiti to Singapore, Frisco to Cadiz, “Adventures of Martin Eden.” commencing at the Opera House to-morrow (Friday) captures in human, earthly terms all the exciting heroism of London’s greatest character, a lover,fighter, adventurei’ who was hardened by the pounding fists of a hundred enemies—and softened by the beckoning warmth of a woman’s smile. Glenn Ford in the title role of Martin Eden is a two-fisted seaman and poet, determined to win world recognition of his literary ability, to smash the system which permits “death wagons” to sail the seven seas, brutalizing seamen and killing them. Miss Trevor appears to advantage as Connie, the waterfront girl fiercely devoted to Martin Eden and to the battle he wages against social injustice. Evelyn Keyes appears at Ruth, the society girl who discovers that romance can be as stirring as a storm at sea. Stuart Erwin abandons his comedy characterisations to prove himself a brilliant dramatic actor. “BOWERY BLITZKRIEG” Described as their fastest and funniest action hit they’ve ever made, “Bowery Blitzkreig” starring The East Side Kids, commences at the Opera House to-morrow. Starring Tyrone Power in the roaring title’ role, the filmization of Edison Marshall’s bestseller “Benjamin Blake/’ contains the adventures of ten lifetimes—replete ' with lusty .fights, adventure and tempestuous romance under .a South Sea Island moon. 20th. Century Fox’s able Production Chief, Darryl F. Zanuck, went all out on the filming of “Son of Fury.” A topflight cast was assembled, including exotic Gene Tierney as the alluring native girl; villainous George Sanders who portrays Tyrone’s vindictive uncle; gorgeous Frances Farmer as Tyrone’s English sweetheart; a »d young Roddy McDowall (of “How Green Was My Valley”) as the youthful Benjamin Blake.
