REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, June 22.

Leading A.C. M. Benjamin has been visiting Reefton as the guest of Mrs. N. Bierwirth. Mr. Lester Woods of Christchurch, arrived on Saturday night on a holiday. Mr. C. F. Shapcott, Secretary of the Armed Forces Appeal Board, was a visitor to Reefton yesterday. Miss E. Cutbush entered the Hospital yesterday to undergo an operation.

The annual meeting of the Burke’s Creek Miner’s Union was held at the week-end, when the following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. C. Haldane; Vice-President, Mr. L. J. Storey; Secretary-Treasurer, Mr. A. Rosanowski; Evecutive, Messrs K. Wildermoth, A. Major, C. Worthington, H. V. Smith; Workmen’s Inspectors, Messrs L. J. Storey and K. Churstain; Delegate to Grey Central Committee, Mr. A. Rosanowski; Auditors, Messrs P. Salmon and J. Lundon.

On Sunday the Railway Department had a work train unloading limestone at the Inangahua River bridge. For some time the river has been eroding its bank and cutting a channel which threatens to how alongside the railway line and leave the bridge high and dry. At the Reefton Fire Brigade meeting on Monday night it was decided to invest £lOO in the Third LibertyLoan. The date for the annual ball was fixed for August 27th.
