NEW AUSTRALIAN AWARD.

56-HOUR WEEK

(Rec. 9.20) MELBOURNE, June 10. Award wages and conditions for the Australian dairy industry have been decided upon, and will be introuced shortly. The- wages will be from £4 16s a week for milking shed hands to £6 Is a week for leading hands. The minimum rate for women employees will be two-thirds of the male rate. The rates for juniors will be from 35s to £4 a week for youths under twenty years, and from 35s to 53s for girls under 20. The employers will be allowed to deduct 25s a week for keep from male workers, £1 for youths, and 16s for females. Overtime will be- paid for hours in excess of fiftyrsix per week in any one week. Each employee is to oe entitled to fourteen day’s leave tor each year of service, and time oif at the rate of one full day for each month.
