Head, who is in the Middle East, stating that he is safe and well. Mr. and Mrs. A. Morley have returned from Christchurch. . L.A.C. D. C. Curtis, who received his secondary education at the Westport High School, received his “Wings” at a passing out ceremony at c. Canterbury R.N.Z.A.F. Station Flight Lieutenant Walshe-, who has been visiting his wife and mothei-in-law, leaves to-aay on return to his station. ~ , Mr. W. A. Bamford left on Saturday for Christchurch. . Mr. C. J. Callaghan has received advice that he has been successful in winning the Gold Medal and Diploma for bread baking at the Otago Winter Show which is being held in Dunedin. During May, 4,620 tons of coal were railed eastward and 1793 tons westward through the Buller Gorge. Buller Hospital Comforts Committee gratefully acknowledge . a donation of £1 from Mr. E. L. Mr. Maurice McNarn. on leave from an Air Force station, has arrived home. Messrs E. Hollis, W. A. Gilmour, J. H. Cooper, J. W. Robinson. D. H. Menzies, and D. G. Bateman have left for a military camp. Mr F W. Vickerman, managing director, N.Z. Woolpacks and Textiles. Ltd, Foxton. who has been visiting Westport in connection with flax-mill matters, has returned to the North Island. , . Mr. J. Johnston left by plane for Wellington. . Members of the White Star football Club met to farewell Mr. Bateman, who has now left for camp, fhe president. Mr. T. Scanlon, on behalf of the members presented Mr. Bateman with a wallet, as an appreciation of the services rendered to the Club during his stay in the district, both as a player and as a member. Messrs T. Coyne (secretary), L. Martin J. Walsh, G. Davies, ana J Hav-McKenzie also paid tributes to the departing guest. On Monday, May 2, a very pretty double wedding was solemnised at St. Canice’s Church by the Rev. I,Father Kirby. The contracting parties were Mabel, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Rea, Derby street, and Leonard, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. R Edd'jv or Palmerston Street; and Margaret, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddy, and Allen, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Rea. The brides were dressed in long-trained white satin taffeta frocks, veils and orange blossom, and carried bouquets of cream stocks and abutitons. bridesmaids. Miss Edna Rae 1 and Miss Ivy x.ddy, wore blue taffeta frocks with short veils to match and their bouquets were of white stocks and chrysantherriums. The best men were Mr. Walter Hopgood and Mr. Gowan Eddy. The reception was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eddy., over' sixty guests being seated at the wedding breakfast. Among the many beautiful wedding presents was an out-size in wedding cakes sent as a wedding gift by Mr. and Mrs. A, Morgan of Nelson. At the mclnthljt meeting ot. the Westport Women’s Institute. Mrs. Des Robertson presided and Mrs. Stowell read the motto. Mrs. Morris, from Murchison was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Richards gave the live-minute talk on Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Mrs. Eddy gave a demonstration on how to make bread flowers. The wandering 2s 6d realised 10s. The results of the competitions were: Ginger nuts, Mrs. Ciasc 1; flour bag article, Mrs. lox 1: best bloom Mrs. Eddy 1, Mrs. Stowell 2, Mrs. Fox 3. Mesdames Richards and Stowell, hostesses, served a dainty supper and the evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem,
