Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Rodger, who have been esteemed citizens for a number of years, have left to take over the license of the Paroa Hotel. Their many friends will wish them success.
Mr. Doug Clark has became the licensee of the Court House Hotel. Mr. John Pool junr. is a patient in the Westland Hospital. Mr. Jack Richardson is spending leave from/ a military camp with his mother in Seddon Street. Miss Margaret McEnaney has returned to Christchurch aftex’ spending a brief holiday with her parents. .Mr. R. E. Bell of Westbrook received an injury to his hand while at work in Gilbert’s sawmill and had to have medical attention. Mr. Norman Steel, who was a populax* lettei’ carrier in the local Post Office, has been transferred to the Head Office in Greymouth,
Mr. C. Holm senr., left for Christchurch to be present at the wedding of Mr. Robert Bleakley to-day Saturday.
After 20 days of fine weathex’ welcome rain fell on Wednesday night. It was particularly welcome for those householders whose tank supply had been exhausted.
The Kumara School Committee met on Wednesday evening. Mr. B. Becker presided. The Headmaster reported that the roll had increased to 76, the average attendance being 68. _A seat on the .sunny side of the shelter shed had been erected. The sand pit ‘had been boxed in and only requires filling with sand. During the May vacation the floors had been scrubbed and oiled and coal had been delivered. Mrs. V. Clark had tendered her resignation as caretaker and Miss Aureen Ritchie had been appointed to the position. Accounts amounting to £9 8s lOd were passed tor payment.
