(Our Own CorrasoondenW The local mine continues to work five days weekly. Mr C. Hunter, Inspector of Mmes, visited Millerton during the week. -Mrs W. Mackay, of Christchurch, is visiting friends in Millerton. Sgt. W. Mackay, of Christchurch, paid a visit to Millerton during the week. , Mrs J. Robinson has returned to Wellington after spending a. holiday at Millerton. n Mrs Barnhill has returned to Wellington alter spending a holiday at Millerton. . Pte. Lee, of Wes'tpofit, visited Millerton during the week. Mrs S. Peggie returned to Millerton during the week after visit- . ing Wellington. Mr T. Grace, Union delegate to the Buller L.R.C. attended a meeting held in Westport on Saturday. The contract trucking method, newly introduced into the local mine is carrying on successfully and a high output is being maintained. A special meeting ot the Millerton Medical Association was held recently. Mr R. Jack presided. The chairman explained to the members that the reason for the meeting was to appoint a secretary owing to the resignation of Mr T. Burchfield, through ill health brought about by his recent accident. It was with the deepest regret the members received the resignation as Mr Burchfield had held the positoin for a number of years, and had become a very efficient and reliable secretary. Mr J. Burt had been carrying on for about six months, but declined nomination. Mr 'J. Bly th was the newly appointed secretary. * Mr W. Wood addressed a public meeting in the picture theatre on Sunday. W. Watson was in the chair. The speaker dealt with the Communist Party policy in regard to the present war, why the C.P. supported the Labour Party candidate at the Christchurch bye-election, and what the party policy would be in regard to the general elections. Although the speaker maintained that there should not have been a general election at this critical period. Mr Wood was given an attentive hearing and a vote of thanks was accorded by acclamation. The School Committee held a card evening during the week, the attendance being good. Messrs Jackson and Flannagan tied for the gents’ prize, Mr G. White winning the second prize. A public meeting was held in the Rechabite Hall on Thursday night. This meeting was called to hear the delegates’ report from a previous meeting which had instructed them to interview the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre and Mr Schadick regarding the increased sanitation rates. The meeting decided that Messrs Connew, Evans and Watson interview members of the council at the first opportunity.
