WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM?

(To The Editor “Magazine Page.”) Sir, —Published in New Zealand newspapers at the time of writing is a London cable containing extracts from an article entitled, “Where is the Communist Party Balance Sheet ?” published in the “Labour Press Service,” which is issued by the Labour Party Press Publicity Department. Perhaps the following information may throw some light on the “mystery” of the source of Communist Party finance

At the time of the German blitz on London the printing plant of the “Daily Worker”, the official organ of the British Communist Party, was totally destroyed. When the ban on the “Daily Worker” was lifted, an appeal was made to the workers of Great Britain for £50,000 so that new machinery could be bought. The workers answered the appeal by donating £58,000.

This seems to adequately answer the query contained in the article in the “Labour Brass Service.’”- But perhaps some people still want to believe in that moth-eaten old fable of “Moscow Gold ” I am etc., JACK DOYLE.

A large and enthusiastic audience attended a public meeting of particular- interest to women, which was held in the Wesley Hall on Wednesday evening. This was organised by the local branch of the Housewives’ Union, and was addressed by a local medical practitioner. The speaker gave a lengthy and detailed treatise on the subject of V.D.

Keen interest was taken in the lecture which was a great success iudging from the amount of and the nature of the questions which were asked. Owing to the serious nature of tiiis dreaded scourge, as outlined by the speaker which was undermining the health of this and the future generation of New Zealand, we demand that the Health Department take further steps to cope with the matter.

show that' motherhood means love for all little ones, not only for those we have ourselves borne. By helping others we shall find new strength, new fulfilment. As terrible as humanity's present ordeal, so glorious will be mankind’s opportunity when peace comes, awakened consciences, new knowledge, new ideas, all these will be bricks to our hands.

We can decide’ the shape of the structure and so the future of our race. Out of the colossal suffering will come new perception of our cooperative ideals, a great longing for a way of life that will bind men together, for the services of all and so ensure that the awful sacrifices of war win freedom and peace for this and succeeding generations.
