DECREASE IN GREYMOUTH. Decreases are shown in the customs returns for Greymouth, both for the month of March and for the quarter ending March 31. Details are as follows,, the figures for 1942 being given in parentheses: March: Customs, £3791 19s lid (£4257 Us Gd); beer, £2057 17s lid (£2334 13s 6d); sales tax, £3949 19s 2d (£3482 12s Id); gold, £3365 5s ,10d (£396G 10s Hd); petrol, £1776 10s 6d (£lBOO 8s 6d); war expenses, sales tax, £7612 16s 3d (£3485 7s lid); war expenses and other, £7196 Ils Gd (£6184 10s 6d); total, £29,795 (£25,632 18s 6d). First quarter: Customs, £8966 13s 4,d (£10,479 15s); beer, £5319 8s lOd (£6771 17s 9d); sales tax £8426 10s 3d (£B2BB 15 s 6d); gold. £10,603 3s 3d (£12,483 14s 7d); petrol, £4059 9s 6d (£4339 2s 6d); war expenses, sales, tax, £15,442 0s 9d (£8384 12s 7d); war expenses, other, £20,722 2s 6d (MRSOS 10s Id); total, £73,948 14s lOd (£69,603 14s’ Bd).. CHRISTCHURCH. March 31. Customs .duty collected in the current financial year in Christchurch-is above the value for last year. For the 12 months to the end of March, 1943, the total collections amounted to £2 835,339, compared with' £2,24696? for last year. There was a deci case in the collection of general customs (£705,147 for 19-12-43, compared with £927,527), but there was an increase in the collections of beer excise (£228,087 with £212,163) and a decrease in sales tax from £515,963 to £513,520. The figures, for the .month ot March, 1943, when compared with those for March, 1942, show similar trends, except that there is an increase in sales tax. fl he total customs revenue increased from £189,876 to £276,525. General customs decreased from £71.92,1 to £62,155. Increases in other items were: Beer, £21,748 to £25,164; sales tax £44,038 to £44,781. • WELLINGTON, March 31. The net customs revenue collected in Wellington last month showed a decrease compaied with March, 1942. increases were shown under all other heads. For the financial year ended yesterday th? net customs revenue and sales tax showed a decrease, and the war tax and beer excise increases. Last month’s figures, followed bv those for March, 1942, were: Customs £210.273 (£219,090); sales tax £111,849 (£108,821); beer excise 1'16,845 (£1.1,513); war tax £405,427 (£138,435). Figures for the financial year, followed by those for 1941-42, were: Customs, £2,521,467 (£2,895,829); ; sales tax £1,444,319 (£1.152,781); beer excise £1G3,692 (£115,940); war tax £3.851,999 (£1,535,111). DUNEDIN, March 31. Customs revenue and beer duty collected at the port of Otago for the 12 ihontlis ended yesterday showed a decline from the figures for the preceding 12 months, but the respective totals for sales tax and the war expenses account more than balanced the fall in revenue. Following are the figures for the month and year, with the 1942 figures in parenthesis: Month: Customs, £27,403 (£40,742); beer duty £43,973 (£41,337); sales tax £35,332 (£32,838); war expenses £135,255 (£43,503). Year: Customs £398,209 (£536,756); beer duty £412,676 (£445,290); sales tax £384,114 (£373,478); war expenses £1.2-21,302 (£496,547). .
