FOOD RATIONING

EXTENDING IN U.S.A NEW YORK, March 25 About one half of American housewives’ food budget will be under ration when meat rationing begins on March 29. On a point basis Americans will get about two pounds of meat weekly, and a quarter of a pound of cheese and a quarter of a pound of butter or margarine. Sugar, tinned fish and other canned food will also be rationed. After Monday the only important foods not rationed will be: Milk bread, cereals, fruit, vegetables and poultry. Everything points to American people suffering food hardships exceeding those of the worst periods in the last war. Angry scenes occurred at stores in west coast cities where meat supplies were exhausted.
