Master Steve Hocking who is an inmate of the Christchurch Hospital is making a good recovery. Mrs Gordon Ward was a visitoi to Greymouth on Wednesday. Sapper W. /P. Rodden. N.Z. Engineers is spending sick leave with his parents. , . „„ Pte. Ralph Beard, who has been spending leave with his parents, has returned to camp. . Mr Harvey senr. of Otaki, is spenm ing a holiday here as the guest m Mr and Mrs Les Harvey. Mrs A. Brooks, who has been indisposed for some weeks, is making satisfactory progress. There was a large crowd at tn.. Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening at a dance organised by the _ local branch of the Red Cross, m a-cl o». the Prisoners of War Parcel rund. Music was supplied by Mrs Devescovi (piano), .Mr W. Lines (cornet) and Mr M. Lines (drums). Extras were contributed by Mesdames G. Young, and A. Ord, and S. Ramsden, while Mr T. Sullivan had charge of the floor. A competition held during the evening was won by, Mr R. Geary. The ‘annual meeting of the Wanrta branch of the N.Z. Labour Party was held in the library on Sunday, when Mr A. Brooks presided over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showing a satisfactory financial position was adopted. The following odicers were elected: President, Mr Gordon Ward; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Sullivan and J. J. Ryan; secretary, and treasurer, Mr E. Elgin; trustees, Messrs J. Young and A. Brooks: aurhtors, Messrs H. A. Ord and E. r. Byrne; social committee, Mesdames G. Ward, J. Rodden, R. Morressy.. J. Eannan, A. Brooks, Messrs R. Morressy, J. Bannan, P. Darby, J. Purcell, D. McVicar, P. Ronchi, P. Andrews and J. Rodden. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Mrs C. F. Skinner on the award for bravery! granted to her husband, Major C. F. S'kinner, M.C., Member for the district, aijd also on his appointment to the Cabinet. A good deal of routine business was transacted and the meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
