[Our Own Correspondent.] REEFTON. Feb. 26. Mr Geo. White, of Crushington. lias left for Dunedin on a visit to his daughter. Miss Shepherd has returned alter spending three weeks in Greymouth. Mrs M. Nicol and son left this morning fox' a holiday to Weddedburn, Central Otago. Mrs W. Prentice junr. and son, oi Lower Hutt, have arrived to spend a holiday with the former’s parents, Mr and Mrs D. Panckhurst. Mrs Bonifacio, of Westport, who has been visiting her son Fred, leaves by rail-car to-day. r, . „ Second Lieutenant P. Comon, NZ.M.C. has been spending leave in Reefton, as the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Gebbie. Miss Jean Honey has left tor Christchurch where she will reside. Second Lieutenant W. Andrew is spending leave with his parents, Mi and Mrs J. D. Andrew, Rotokohu. Gunner E. Hunt is spending leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs aHunt, Reefton. Further donations have been received by the Reefton Patriotic Committee to the sum raised by the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band during their visit to Reefton. The amount now in hand is fl 64 9s 9d. The monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council was held on Thursday. Present: Crs. F. W. Ar"cher (chair), J. O’Regan, W. Blackadder. T. Watson, B. Mirfin W. Hempseed, J. J. Coghlan. Correspondent was read and receivea*as follows: From L. E. Morgan, notifying sales of properties and asking amendment to rolls. —Rolls to be amended as requested. From secretary to Treasury advising that loans amounting to £6OOO 13s 2n matured on February I.—Received. From Mining Valuer giving figures for valuation of mining properties for year 1943-44—Received. From secretary, Grey Electric Power Board advising that the board, offers no objection to the council giving its consent to the construction of lines to Black’s Point—Received. From F. Lawry, applying for cycle allowance while travelling to and trom Suburban Cemetery.—Resolved that, an allowance of 2s 6d weekly be granted. From secretary. Counties Association on the matter of hospital upkeep. —Received. From Hon. J. O’Brien on the matter of Cronadun mails, endorsing letter from the Postmaster-General. —Received. From the Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, concerning the Or-i der-in-Council under Section 182 of the Counties’ Act. 1920.—Received. From the District Engineer. N.Z. Railways, advising that a locomotive watering vat is being erected at the Inangahua Junction station. —Received From the District Engineer, Public Works Department, advising that the Soil Conservation and River Control Council propose paying a visit of inspection to the Inangahua district during March.—The chairman was appointed to represent the council. From the P.W.D. Engineer, concerning ropes for Bett’s bridge. From the Minister of Transport (Mr O’Brien) concerning cutting out of passenger service operating between Ikamatua and Waiuta. advising that ■ same has been restored. From the Public Works Department concerning erosion at Rotokohu—Received. From the Department concerning grant for Coal Creek bridge. From Mrs J. Wearne asking for attention to the drains at her property at Black’s Point. From the secretary, Alexander Mines, concerning Snowy Creek road.—Applicants to be .advised that the council has repaired the road. From R. A. Fellows, of Blackwater, asking for road access to her nroperty. —Resolved to advise applicant rates received does not warrant expenditure. From L. E. Morgan on behalf of Harold Farrell concerning diversion works, Inanga-' hua River. —Received. From the Commissioner of Transport concerning upkeep of roads—Received. From E. Leggoe concerning dredging of road reserves along the frontage of her property. —Received. From R. • S Blair concerning the erection of a bridge across Boatman’s Creek.— Resolved the council expedite the building of the bridge. It was resolved that' the Reefton Electric Lio-ht Coy. be asked to contribute 50 per cent, of costs of repairs to White s bridge. The Health and Traffic Inspectors’ and foreman’s reports were received. Cr Hempseed moved that a sum of money be placed on the estimate for tar-sealing the road approaching the Waiuta mine, and that application be made for a grant on £2 for £1 basis for the work. The motion was seconded by Cr Coghlan. Cr Mirfin moved that attention be ffiven to Rough River Road and bridge. This was seconded by Cr Archer. Cr Coghlan moved that the Public Works Department be asked to expedite the plans for Bett’s bridge. This was seconded by Cr Watson. Cr Coghlan said that country pupils who attended R.D.H. School and travelled by rail-car missed a period of tuition. —Resolved the headmaster be asked to arrange timetable to suit country pupils. It was decided that repairs be carried out to Mai Mai road, the council to build the bridge if Mr Sutton will provide timber. Cr Coghlan moved and the chairman seconded that the attention of Highways and Railway Departments be drawn to erosion at Larry’s Creek bridge. It was resolved the foreman inspect the damage done by the P.W.D. bulldozer to Rough River bridge, the cost to be met by Department. The passing of accounts closea the meeting.
