REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, Feb. 24. Mrs R. McNeil and daughter have left for Christchurch where they will spend a fortnight’s holiday. Miss E. Boulter has returned to her home in Christchurch. Miss Jean Honey has left fo Christchurch where she has accepted a position. Mrs W. Reeve has entered the hospital for treatment. On Sunday evening after th e St. Stephen's Criurch service the members oi the congregation met in the Sunday School room to farewell Rev. D. S. Evans and Mrs Evans, who have been in charge of the parish for the last live years. Mr F. Marshall on behalf of those present, presented the guest of the evening witri a wellfilled wallet. Other speakers were Messrs A. P. Watson and E. T. Baird. The members of the Bible Class asked Mr Evans to accept a small present. Mr Evans suitably replied and stated his departure was l on account of ill health. He and his -family leave for Motupiko on FriWhile playing a round of golf at the Waitahu links on Sunday, Mr A. Sheldon, of ikamatua, holed in one at the hole known as “Misery,” a distance of approximately 115 yards. The visitor was warmly congratulated on his stroke of luck. To finalise, a successful day the dance band of the R.N.Z.A.F. supplied the music at the Patriotic Ball held in the Gymnasium. Visitors attended from as far afield as Greymouth and Westport. Mr F. Boote carried out the duties of M.C. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs Yellowlees and Mr Doyle, while Miss McKenzie and A. Barrett won the Lucky Spot. The proceeds from the ball brought the day’s takings up to 1160. Thanks are due to the band for their efforts. The visitors left for Christchurch yesterday morning when a large crowd farewelled them. Mr and Mrs Panckhurst. of Auckland are visiitng the former’s brother Mr D. Panckhurst, of Munson St. Private M. Crossen, daughter of Mrs E. Crossen, Black’s Point, who was on leave has returned to camp. Corporals R. Hindmarsh and J. Heslop, Lance-Corporal L. Kearns and Pte. C. Carter are spending leave in Reefton. Mrs D. Davidson left on Tuesday for Invercargill. At a sitting of the Warden’s Court before Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., the following applications were heard: Mrs Absalom to surrender several mining privileges. — Adjourned. Burke's Creek Collieries Ltd., for two mineral licenses. —Both adjourned. Miss C. M. Morris, for a reduction in rent.- —Recommended (for Minister’s consent. John Hargreaves, for a reduction in rent. —Recommended. A. Andrews and L. Rudkin, for an ordinary prospecting license. —Granted. J. H. Griggs for an extension of' time for the hearing of the application.—Recommended. Snowy River Gold Dredging Co., Ltd., for an extension of time for hearing of an application. —Recommended, J. H. Griggs for extension of time for a survey.—Recommended. W. Nicholls for a coal lease (Mr Morgan). Objected to by A. D. Williams (Mr Patterson) and Waitahu N.Z. Collieries. —Granted, subject to the Minister s consent.
