ABORTION CHARGE

WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. Strong opposition to an application for bail was made in the Magistrate’s Court b'yj Detective Sergeant McLennan when Mary Ann Wearne, 60, a' domestic, was charged with wilfully using an instrument with intent to procure a' miscarriage. Counsel’s application was made after the police had asked for a week’s remand, counsel saying that accused was a well-known resident of Wellington and owned freehold property.. Det.Sergeant McLennan said that the girl concerned was only 15 years of age and was admitted to hospital late last night. Bail was refused.
