DIPLOMATIC STAFFS

FOR AUSTRALIA. CANBERRA, Jan. 23. Australia is to train its own diplomatic staffs for service abroad. This has been announced by the Minister of External Affairs (Dr. H. V. Evatt) who said that Australia’s foreign interests and relations, particularly in the Pacific area, had grown enormously. New legations had also been established in Washington, Chungking and Russia. All this necessitated an expansion of the diplomatic stair. Candidates would enter a course of intensive study and, it suitable, would be posted abroad. A year’s course covering international affairs would be part of their training.
