The report of a special committee recommended that the Centre being open from 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 on Fridays. and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays. It also recommended that one caretaker-cleaner be appointed for the whole building. The price of honey sold by retailers in the areas where wholesale merchants purchasing on a freight paid basis are situated, is fixed by a price order gazetted yesterday, lhe order provides for sales in glass jars and cartons, and also sales in bulk, the prices for honey jars and tins being higher to provide for the extra cost of containers. The prices for cartons are Is 2d per pound and 2s 3d for two pounds; and for bulk (cut and wrapped) Is per pound. Retailers who have to pay inward freight for purchases received from a wholesalers may add the amount of such freight to these prices.—P.A.

The Russian rubber plant KokSaghyz was mentioned bv the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) at last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Borough Council. Mr Kitchingham said that press item regarding the plant, stating that it could be growii in widely varying climates, had ben shown to him by the Borough Engineer (Mr A. J. Fairmaid), and he had sent it to the Hon. J. O’Brien, suggesting that an attempt might be made to grow it on the West Coast. Wellington that every occupier of. a commercial garden of'half an acre or over, or any occupier of a glasshouse covering an area of not. less than twenty-live hundred squaie feet, or every occupier of a commercial garden comprising a glasshouse and open land which, together, aggregate an area of half an acre or more (the •area under glass being computed at the rate of live thousand square feet per acre), is directed to furnish to the Primary Industries Controller particulars of the crops at present under cultivation, and those crops to be planted. Th e returns should include all vegetables crops, with the exception of potatoes, and are required to be completed and posted by the growers not later than February 1. These statistics are considered to be essential in order that the Government may be in a position to know that adequate supplies are available for the armed forces, as well as for the civilian population.P.A.

The resetting of on e bed, and possibly two, in the Greymouth Municipal Gas supply will be necessary during the next summer season, according to the Gas Manager’s report for December, received at last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Borough Council. As long delays were unavoidable in the supply of material it was recommended that the materials required be ordered immediately. The cost of these was £354 in 1935. the estimated present day cost being £450. During Dec. 6 appliances valued at £169 10s were fitted. There had been no extensions of the main reticulation system but two new consumers have been connected. The gas main in Mawhera Quay and Custom Street between Tainui Street and Mackay Street had been cleaned out. Cash receipts for December totalled £934 10s Id, an increase of £248 19s Id on the figure for December last year. Receipts to December totalled £ll,lBl 0s lid, a decrease of £332 Is lid on the figure for the corresponding period last, year.
