A SUCCESSFUL. YEAR. “‘The year ending December 01, 1942 has proved a' very successful one for the Library, both financially and in new members, since the change over to the Free Library Service. The membership has increased from 300 subscribers under the subscription system to 2,177 registrations,” states the annual report of the Greymouth Librarian received by the Borough Council at its meeting last evening. The Schools Library Service, which was inaugurated in November, is now in working order, and thirty schools m the district are being served under the scheme. j The total number of books issued during the year ,wa's 61,611, comprising: Country Library Service, 14,622; free, 41,117; rental b,872. Cash takings totalled £173 4s 3d, consisting of non-resident subscriptions, £l3 5s and rental of extra books, etc., £159 19s 3d. There were 2,177 registrations. The monthly report for December showed a total of 5018 books issued, comprising Country Library Service. 1322; free, 3039; rental, 657. Cash receipts totalled £l6 2s 3d, of which 5s was from non-resident subscrip-

tions and £l5 17s 3d from rental of extra books. Cr. Kent, in presenting the report suggested that the library should bo moved downstairs when the Plunket* Rooms were vacated.
