Mrs Pope and Miss Hansen yesterday made the journey from Greymouth to Westport and back by railcar.
Mr G. H. Mackley, former general manager of the N.Z. Railways, has been appointed Managing Director of Whakatane Paper Mills Ltd., Whakatane in succession to Mr H. A. Horrocks, whose death occurred recently. The late Mr Horrocks had pioneered the company from an afforestation to a paper manufacturing venture.

Senior-Sergeant and Mrs G. F. Bonisch heard a message from the Vatican Radio last Saturday week, stating that their son, George Bernard, was a prisoner of war in Italy. Four days later they received an airmail letter from the Apostolic Delegate (Archbishop Panico), in Sydney, to the same effect.

We deeply regret to record the death of Sister Mary Columba Maguire, which occurred yesterday at the local Convent. Born at Swanlinbar, County Cavan, Ireland on February 22, 1891, deceased was th e daughter of Mrs Martha Maguire and the late Hugh Maguire. On leaving Ireland, she entered the Convent, Greymouth, in 1909. She devoted herself to the education of the young in the Convent Schools of Greymouth, Brunner and Cobden.. She is survived by her mother, five brothers, Rev. James Maguire, C.S.Sp. (Ridgefield, Connecticut, U.S.A.); Rev. Thomas Maguire, C.S.Sp. (Kenya Colony, Africa); Francis, Hugh and Brian; and three, sisters, Rev. Mother M. Vincent, of the Con,jvent of Mercy, Timaru, and Sisters M. Peter and Paul, (Easingwold. Yorkshire, England), who are also Sisters of Mercy. To-morrow, at 9 a.m., there will be Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church; at which Mass His Lordship. Dr. M. J. Brodie will preside, and the funeral will take place at Kar.oro Cemetery.' ' ' . r
