LONDON, August 18. Young officers wishing to make the Army their career are now to have the chance of obtaining regular commissions. which have not been granted since the outbreak of the war. Selection Boards will favour men with proved powers of leadership, and wide interests, and also those w.th flying experience. Hon. Gerald Lascelles, younger sen of the Princess Royal and the Earl of Harewood, has been working at a munitions factory in northeastern England as an apprentice, under an assumed name, since April. His normal working day has been from 7.45 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. He will later enter the Army, where his elder brother is already serving. The Germans have closed the Dutch coastal belt between the Hook of Holland and Scheveningen, says a Stockholm message. Civilians were comnelled to evacuate their homes.
