BARRYTOWN NOTES

A most enjoyable evening was spent on Saturday on the occasion of a public farewell to Miss Heenan, local mistress 'of the school. Miss Heenan has for four years tilled the Barrytown position with the greatest ( of satisfaction to all concerned, and the sentiments expressed from alt Quarters were indicative of the high regard in which she is held. In making a gift to Miss Heenan on behalf of the residents of the district, Mr. Nesbit referred to her many good qualities in all social activties. Her work in Patriotic avenues was an inspiration to all associated with her, and in the more general side of com-: munity life, her efforts were always of the strongest and most generously given. In the matter of school work, Miss Heenan at all times retained the respect and co-operation of the parents. Her association with the School Committee was always of the most cordial, and above all else she held the unbounded respect and love of all the children .with whom she has come in contact. The speaker assured Miss Heenan that one and all congratulated her on her new appointment and trusted that in her new surroundings she would enjoy a full measure of health,/happiness and prosperity, and when opportunity ottered that she would spend a holiday of long duration among her friends in Barrytown. On behalf of the Tennis Club, Mr. Nesbit made a further presentation to Miss Heenan and expressed the best of good wishes. From the Barrvtown-Punakaiki Women’s Institute, Miss Heenan was the recipient of a further gift. The president, Mrs. H. S. Langridge, referred to their guest in eulogistic terms and wished her a long, span of health and happiness. Sustained applause and musical honours preceded Miss Heenan’s reply. She feelingly referred to the remarks made by the several speakers, stressing the great consideration and courtesy she had received from all sections of the community. With the teaching - staff and Committee she had at all times been able to work in the smoothest harmony and for all the children who had passed through her hands she would always carry feelings of love and many pleasant memories. Finally she expressed her sincere thanks for the presentations, which would serve to remind her of her so happy relations with the district. During the evening there was a programme of dancing to music supplied bv Fischer’s Orchestra and extras played by Mesdames Mouatt and Greer. Supper was provided and served by the ladies of the district.
