AID IN CAUCASUS?
PRESS SPECULATION On Churchill-Stalin Talks [Aust. & NZ. Cable Ass»>.? LONDON, Aug. 18. The first reactions in comment and speculation on the Churchill-Stalin talks are given prominence throughout the world to-day. They are as varied as the tongues wherein they are spoken and written. United Nations Press hail the conversations as strengthening and coordinating the war effort. The American speculation is as to whether the Second Front or strength, ening of the Caucasus was the primary military discussion. The Axis radio is cyniaal. The Japanese declare that Mr. Churchill ,is again tiding over a critical situation in his own country, at the expense of others. The Swiss radio declares that Mr. Churchill’s journey proves that political and military relations between Britain and Russia have been tightened and strengthened. In Britain 'news of Mr. Churchills visit to Moscow with Mr. Harriman and British and American Generals was universally welocmed as a great forward step in co-ordinating strategy. The "Evening Standard” says: The Parliamentary recess will be interrupted to allow Mr. Churchill to report on the Russian conversations. The resumption will be brief, probnbly one or two days, and will probably be in open session.
