Mr C. Rodgers of Greymouth, is on a visit to Wanganui.

Rev. M. H. Feist, formerly of Hohas been gazetted as Chaplain 4th. Class (Presbyterian).

Sergeant. R. R. Eastgate of Hokitika has been promoted to Second Lieutenant (temporary).

Mr. H. Steel, licensee of the Star and Garter Hotel. Christchurch, who has been on a visit to Greymouth, will return bv this evening’s railcar.

Private Tim O’Connor, of Hokitika, son of Mr. Wm. O’Connor, who has been wounded in the Middle East, was among the New Zealanders who recently were stationed in Syria, and on his return to Egypt he was appointed to a signalling unit.

The marriage of Joyce Francis, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Eden, Blenheim and Sapper John Newton, of Runanga. took place at the Holv Trinity Church. Greymouth on August 8. Rev. P. Kirkham officiated. i : ! t:

The death has occurred in Sydney of Mr J. O. Meeks, chairman of directors of Harrison, Ramsay, Ltd., since 1930. Mr Meeks, who was well known in New Zealand commercial circles, was chairman of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce in 1927-28. He was born in Australia in 1877 and married Ruby, daughter of the late Sir John Lee, some time Premier of New South Wales. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
