REEFTON, July 23. Mr W. Harvey, who is an inmate of the Reefton ‘ Hospital, continues to show improvement and it is hoped that he will soon be able to return to his home. The Inangahua County Council is at present carrying out improvements in the form of concrete keroings to the footpaths. Attention has now turned to Smith Street. Good progress is being made in this work which is being efficiently carried out bv the council's employees, 'News has been received .of the death, at her mother’s residence. Pukekohe. of Thelma, wife of Signalman E. C. Dobson, N.Z.E F. (overseas), son of Mr and Mrs C. Dobson of Reefton. A daughter of Mr and Mrs Boyce, of Pukekohe. the late Mrs Dobson was 35 years of age. Although she had been in ill health for some time, her end was unexpected. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter six years oi age. The many friends of the family will extend their sincere sympathy in their sad loss. Mr and Mrs H. Dodson and family who have resided at Mawheraiti for the past few years, will leave on Friday to take‘up residence again in Greymouth. Mr Bruce Gray was a visitor to Waiuta at the week-end.

The meeting of the Women's War I Service Auxiliary was held in the Institute room, the following being present: Miss Morris (chair), Mesdames Clarke, Potter, Morgan and Miss Garth. Apologies were received from Mrs Yellowlees and Miss Burns. Correspondence was received from Miss M. Malempre, Dominion Headquarters Secretary, and Mr J. H. Hunter, Director of National Service. The Dominion secretary wrote re women’s enlistment for home service with the Army, Navy and Air Force, detailing positions open for women between IS and 40 years of age with a 44-hour week, including clerks, signallers, stenographers, canteen and store work- ] ers, drivers, waitresses, cooks, tele- . printer operators, pay clerks, dental attendants and messengers, and equipment store assistants.
