Mr Albert Lines met with an unfortunate accident on Tuesday last. While returning from a hunting trip, he was thrown from his horse, and sustained a broken leg, after receiving first aid, he was admitted to the Reefton Hospital, where he is progressing favourably. Mr and Mrs A. Kane, who have been residents of the township for some time, have left for Christcamp. Prior to his departure, he was the recipient of suitable presentations for himself and Mrs Kane, from the staff of the Blackwater Mines, ot which lie w .s a member

Mrs J. Rodden, who has been indisposed for some weeks is spending a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs F. Dean left on Thursday morning on a holiday visit to Christchurch and Oamaru.

' Mrs' J: Farrell and son (Feilding) and Miss G. Kennedy (Auckland) have been spending a holiday here as the guests of Mr and Mrs Les Kennedy. Mr Tom Beckwith, who i l . l during the week-end, and removed to the Reefton Hospital, is making satisfactory progress.

MT and Mrs Paul Ronchi are spending a holiday in Auckland. A severe earthquake shock was felt locally on Wednesday evening about 11.20 o'clock. No damage was done.

The dry spell of weather 'has causing a serious shortage of water, and a good deal of sickness is prevalent in the township. Sapper Dave Whyte and Sapper Phil Williams who have been spending leave- here, have returned to camp.

Miss Reta Cuff of the N.Z.W.A.A.F. is spending leave' with her mother at Blackwater.

Mr H. A. Mercer (Country Library Service),- was a visitor to the township on Thursday. Mrs J. -J'. Ryan, who was a- visitor to Christchurch during the week, returned on Thursday evening. Private Alex Bligh, was a weekend visitor to Waiuta.
