THAT WAY ?
“Mobilise yourselves. Fight to the last drop of blood to defend your towns and villages. Leave not a single railway coach, a single pound of grain, a single gallon of petrol to the invader. Set the forests, the depots and the trains on fire. Form guerilla bands everywhere. Create conditions intolerable for the enemy. “Rise in your millions.”—Josef Stalin, Soviet Premier, calling the Soviet citizens to a People’s War on the Axis. —Or this Way ? “Keep indoors, or in your shelter until the battle is over. If you can have a trench ready in your garden or shelter, so much the better. You may.want to use it for protection if your home is damaged. But if you are at work or have special orders, carry on as long as possible, and only take cover when danger approaches. If you are on your way to work, finish your journey if you can. If you see an enemy tank' or a fewsoldiers, do not assume the enemy are in control of the areas. What you have seen may be a party sent °n in advance, or stragglers from the main body who can be easily rounded up.”—Department of Home Security’s "what to do in an invasion booklet,” just issued from Canberra for guidance of Australian civilians. —lronworker, March, 1942.
