“HATE” TRAINING
In British Army
TO BE CUT OUT.
(Rec. 6.30). LONDON, Mav 23 ; The British Army’s “Hate Training” is being now stopped b-„- General Sir Bernard Paget, the Commander-in-Chief of the Home Forces. This has been revealed in a letter from General Paget, which has been read to the. Assembly of the Church of Scotland by the moderator, Dr Cockburn.
Recently, Dr. Cockburn wrote to the War Office protesting against such hate training. General Paget states that he is writing to all of the Army Commanders against the use of stronglanguage, particularly in the battle school’s, as a means of urging the students to greater efforts. He is also writing against the attempt to produce hate during the training. Sir Bernard Paget states: “Such an attitude is foreign to the British temperament. Officers, and noncommissioned officers, must be made to realise the difference that exist? between building up an artificial hate and builqing up a true offensive spirit, combined with the willpower which will not recognise defeat.”
