BRITISH INVITATION.

FOR U.S. CONGRESSMEN TO CONFER.

(Rec. 9.30.) WASHINGTON, May 23. A British Government representative has conferred, secretly, with the Republican and the Democratic Party Leaders of the House and the Senate. He made tentative informal proposals for a -group of Congressmen to be chosen to confer .in England with members of Parliament, regarding the conduct of the war, and also regarding plans for subsequent peace. The Associated Press says: The proposal which is reported to call for the selection of five Democrats and five Republicans, including topranking members of the House and Senate to travel to England in July as guests of the British Parliament.
