(Our Own Correspondent). REEFTON, May 20. Privates L. Gibellini, W. Ward, L. Kearns, W. Bonifacio, J. Pennington, K. Cutbush, J. Gilmore and W. Barnett spent the week-end with relatives here. .

A youth named Brown, whose parents live at A’haura, sustained a broken arm on Sunday. He was riding a horse and entered a paddock on the Buller Road, in which some other horses were grazing. One of these resented the other horse’s intrusion, and endeavoured to kick it, an in endeavouring to get out of its way the lad fell off his own horse and sustained A fracture of the upper part of an arm. He was at once taken to Dr. Wicken for attention.

Mrs. Russell Chandler, a well- J known resident, is seriously ill in Christchurch. Mr. Chandler has left for Christchurch and also Mr. Norman Woods, (her brother). The death of Mr. James Lawn has removed an identity of the district. His parents came here 70 years ago, and he had lived in Inangahua all his life, excepting a short stay at Woodend, Canterbury. After working many years at the mines, he conducted a butchery business here. A prominent member of the local Band, he was for some time secretary. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Jack (Rotorua), James (2nd N.Z.E.F.), rind Robert, also three daughters, Mesdames D. Forster-Davidson (Reefton), G. Tibbles (Hukarere),and Miss Alice Lawn (Reefton), by one brother, Mr. J. Lawn (Hamilton), and three sisters, M.esdames W. McEwin (Hukarere), J. Dow (Auckland), R. Holland (Wellington). The Manpower Committee adjourned sine die the following reviewed appeals:—Jack A. Davy (Slab Hut Creek Dredge); F. W. Quaife (Inangahua <.Sawmill Co.); Arthur W. Ross (bushman); Jas. D. Comerford (farmer); W. T. Hempseed (grocer); Thos. J. Williams and Arthur H. Thompson (Comet Minino - Party); Ronald Simmons (Blackwater Mines); Keith Kent (electrical engineer); Charles A. Marsden (farmer); Wm. Douglas (farmer); J C. O’Malley (farmer). Appeals for W D. Williams (farmer) and John H. Milligan (builder), were adjourned, the former for medical examination and the latter for review. •
