THE BINDING LINK Individual Freedom

A PERSONAL MATTER,, Love of freedom is the binding link which has brought about unparalleled national unity among the people of Great Britain and other parts of the Empire, and also beween the various countries comprising the United Nations. Our' democratic way of life and traditional love of freedom have brought to the people of New Zealand many blessings that add to the satisfaction of our daily life. One of them is the freedom to eat and drink as we please, within the limits of the law. A small minority, however, are inclined to thoughtlessly abuse that privilege. Abuse of the liberty to drink as one pleases, as for example by excessive or aftcn-'hours drinking on licensed premises, is not only unwise but is an invasion of public rights. Those who seek to indulge themselves in that way are endangering the very freedom they wish to enjoy. Moderation is' a virtue at ad times, but ,in wartime it is the foundation of national morale and of the will to victory. “Hold fast to liberty”—but remember that freedom must be deserved. An announcement issued in the Nation’s interests by the National Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand.
