RAIDS IN ENGLAND
BATH AND EXETER. 8.0.W. RUGBY, April 26. It is disclosed that Bath was the objective of the enemy bombing attack last night. It was earlier stated that two towns had been attacked and that damage and casualties at one were rather heavy. There was some damage and a lew casualties at the other town. Raiders also attacked north-eastern Scotland, causing some damage and casualties. Four German bombers were destroyed during the night. It is difficult to understand the reason why the Luftwaffe should have selected for the first considerable attack for months this unoffending town. Last night’s raid cn Bath is reported to have lasted several hours, and many high explosives and incendiaries were dropped. Considerable damage to the residential part of the town is reported. Many people were rendered homeless. Five enemy bombers, oyer Britain were destroyed last night. A Luftwaffe raid on a' south-west English town was described m Saturday’s German communique as a reprisal for continued British attacks on towns in Germany. According. to the German communique the town was Exeter —which for productive importance must rank almost the lowest of English towns. This raid was made by no more than 12 machines. The total number of enemy aeroplanes crossing tne English coast on Friday night was 2b. BATH AGAIN ATTACKED. (Rec 115.) IXDNDON, April 27. On Sunday night, the Luftwaffe again attacked Bath, but this raid was on a considerably smaller scale than that on Saturday night.
Two Hour Raid ON WEST ENGLISH TOWN. (Rec. 1.20). LONDON, April 27. It is authoritatively stated that the Germans raided towns in the west of England on Sunday night. One town was subjected for two hours to attack. The casualties and the damage there are believed to be heavy. Two raiders were destroyed, during the night, and a third in the morning, and a number were damaged.
