HOKITIKA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent), HOKITIKA, March 19. Exceptionally heiavy raifn fell throughout last night and continued to-day. It cleared somewhat towards noon. The river was in high flood, and as a result the channel over the bar has straightened and deepened. There was a good deal of water over the low-lying areas. For the Home Guard displays at the gala to be held in Hokitika on Saturday, March 28. Mr Robert Ford of Ford’s Brewery, Hokitika, has donated a beautiful silver ,cup to be awarded to the company receiving the highest awards. The business people will close early, the Municipal Band will assist, and the swimming baths and picture shows will remain closed for the afternoon.
At the Magistrate’s Court S. Dalziell, a motorist, for having no warrant of fitness, was fined 10s and for exceeding the speed limit was fined £2 by Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M. John Woods, charged with disobedience of maintenance order, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided defendant pays maintenance at 30s weekly and 5s weekly, off arrears, which amounted to £’4l up to February 2. At the Warden’s Court Mr G. G. Chisholm decided to recommend the following applications? Kanieri Gold Dredging Coy. six ordinary prospecting licenses over areas situated in Block I, Kanieri S.D., four of the areas being of 100 acres each, and two of 60 acres each; Ara'hura Gold Dredging Coy, ordinary prospecting license over an area of 40 acres, near Kawlaka Creek.
