ENEMY RAIDERS
Off Queensland ATTACK SHIPPING. (Rec. 10.40.) CANBERRA, Mar. 19. Mr Curtin has reported enemy air activity near Cape York, in the extreme north of Queensland. The communique states: “Enemy aircraft reconnoitered over the islands near Cape York, North Queensland, on Wednesday afternoon. They continued their survey for about fifteen minutes. “It was apparently the same group of aircraft, which later attacked shipping in the same vicinity, but no damage is reported. RAID ON MORESBY. YESTERDAY’S FUTILE EFFORT. (Rec. 11.55). CANBERRA, March 19. A further communique, issued tonight, stated: “Th e Japanese again bombed Port Moresby to-day. The raid, which was carried out by a medium force, was directed at the harbour installations About forty bombs were dropped. Neither casualties nor damage is reported. i RAID ON DARWIN IN RESIDENTIAL AREA (Rec. 1.35) CANBERRA, March 19. “The Japanese again raided Darwin this afternoon,” states a communique issued to-night. “A small force of heavy bombers dropped 25 bombs of the anti-personnel type in the residential area, resulting in small property damage and slight casualties. The War Cabinet has decreed that all men between the ages of 18 and 60 years, not called up for the fighting services, shall be liable for service in fire-fighting squads, for roof watching, and for similar essential duties in the event of emergenev.
