U.S. PETROL SALES

CUT BEGUN. (Rec. 11.40.) WASHINGTON, Mar. 14. The War Production Board has ordered a twenty per cent, reduction in gasoline deliveries to the filling stations on the eastern seaboard, and on the Pacific north-west coast. The stations have also been ordered to confine their operations to twelve hours daily and seventytwo hours weekly. It is believed that this intermediate action is designed to hold down gasoline consumption until cards could be printed and issued for a rigid gasoline rationing programme, which is expected to be initiated within several weeks. The rationing has become necessary not through lack of petroleum, but through shortage of transportation facilities from the petroleum field?.
