GREATER ACTIVITY Artillery and Air Raiding [British Official Wireless] RUGBY, March 14. A British war communique from the Middle East says: Our artillery was active all day on Friday in dispersing small parties of enemy mechanical transport. Our reconnoitring columns made contact with some enemy positions in spite of enemy shelling. The enemy air forces were more active on Friday in the forward area, and also over Tobruk. A.A. defence guns shot down one bomber into the sea and reported setting another on fire. The Middle East R.A.F. communique on Saturday said: Air activity ’n Cyrenaica was on an increased scale on Friday. R.A.F. fighters intercepted a strong formation of enemy bombers and fighters in the Tobruk area. They shot down one Macchi 200, and one Macchi 202. Objectives at Piraeus were attacked by bomber aircraft on Thursday night, and aerodromes in southern Crete were also attacked.
Enemy aircraft continued to raid Malta on Thursday night and again on Friday, causing some damage. None of our aircraft is missing.
