ADVANCE REPORTED. TOKIO, February 24. It is officially announced here that Japanese naval and parachute troops ma'de a new landing on Friday in the neighbourhood of Koepang, in Timor, and they are continuing their advance. , 8.0.W. RUGBY, February 24. According to news reaching London, the Japanese have occupied a point in Timor, though in what numbers is unknown. They landed near Kupang, in the extreme south, though it is possible that landings also occurred at other points on the island. JAPS CLAIM ’DROME. (Rec. 9.10). NEW YORK. Feb. 25. The Tokio radio says that according to the Domei News Agency, the Japanese forces w'hich landed near Koepang, in Timor, have occupied an aerodrome ten miles to the southeast of the town. Dilli on Fire JAPS. IN PORTUGUESE AREA. AUSTRALIANS RESIST. (Rec. 11.10.) CANBERRA, Feb. 25. A strong Japanese naval force was sighted on Tuesday, near Dilli. in Portuguese Timor. Japanese transports are already in in Dilli harbour itself, and Dilli is re. ported to be on fire. A number of Japanese parachute troops have also landed in Koepang. These facts were revealed to-day by the Air Minister, Hon. Mr Drakeford, who said that he had received a report from the Netherlands Indies Headquarters that Dutch and Australian troops were still offering resistance in Timor. PORTUGUESE TROOPSHIP. (Rec. 1.10.) CANBERRA, Feb. 25. The Portuguese troopship "Joaobelo,’’ the sighting of which was cabled yesterday, is epxected at Dilli next Monday, bringing Portuguese troops from East Africa, in terms of an agreement with Britain for the defence of the island. Commenting on the Japanese landing on Timor and the speech of Dr. Salazar, the Prime Minister of Portugal, the Lisbon newspaper “Journal do Comercioe Des Colonias” says “Dr. Salazar, in paying homage to the good faith and goodwill shown by the British Government in the matter of Timor, has drawn even closer the friendship between Portugal and Britain. Animated by the noble example furnished by Britain, we can be calmly confident that the new incident will be solved in a just and. peaceful fashion.”
