U.S. NAVY HIDING?
A CANADIAN'S ALLEGATION. DISAVOWED BY GOVERNMENT. (Rec. 11.50). WASHINGTON, , February 16. The Canadian- Government is reported to have expressed regret to the United States over the recent utterances of the Premier of Ontario, Mr. Mitchell Hepburn. In two public addresses Mr. Hepburn charged the United States Navy in the Pacific with hiding from the Japanese. The Government has explained that its expressions of regret did not constitute a formal apology, since Mr. Mitchell Hepburn is not a member of the Canadian Government, but merely a Provincial Premier. The Canadian officials, however, emphasised that few Canadians sympathised with Mr. Hepburn’s views.
