Enemy Aggressive B.Q.W. RUGBY, October 6. Some activity is reported from North Africa, where, during the night of October 1/2, there was air and artillery activity, by the enemy, and the British shelled enemy positions opposite Ras el Medawar, destroying some hangars and dug-outs and causing three heavy explosions. Patrols carried out reconnaissances deen into enemy positions. In the frontier area, on the night of September 30-October 1, a party of about 30 enemy troops raiaed a forward observation post. There were some enemy shelling about three miles and a ,half to tne southeast of Halfaya Pass, in the area of Bir Siweiyat. Ten enemy aircraft raided Mersa Matruh, on the night of October 1-2. ’There were no British casualties. Fourteen enemy aircraft dropped incendiaries on the landing ground at Qasaba, but no damage wa< done. NEW YORK, October 5. When German aeroplanes bombed the Cunard White Star liner Georgia at a Suez port on July 13, 137. members of the crew and approximately 600 Italian prisoners, including two generals, lost their lives. This was revealed by members of the crew of the President Buchanan, which was berthed a mile away from jtlie Georgic when the attack was made. Two bombs set the Georgic on fire, and then another Nazi pilot, in a suicidal attempt to sink the liner, crash-landed his bomb-laden aeroplane on the deck. A terrific explosion followed, and the Italian prisoners, who were trapped below decks, were' burnt to death.
