SYDNEY NOTES. SYDNEY, October 7. It will be argued for some time that the favourite, Lucrative, would have won the Metropolitan Handi • cap, had he maintained a straight course in the straight, says the “Herald.” Against this however, Dashing Cavalier, apparently with a ittle in reserve, ran an Australian record. It was the best performance of his career. The “Telegraph” quotes Maurice M'cCarten as saying that but lor a series of exasperating mishaps. Lucrative would have “walked away with the Metropolitan. Lucrative met with interference three times, and was beaten only by fifteen inches. " Acceptances for the Craven Plate at Randwick to-morrow are: Reading, High Caste, Mildura, Beau Vite, ail 9.4.
MELBOURNE DOINGS. (Rec. 5.5) MELBOURNE, October 7. Conditions were favourable for galloping at Flemington to-day. On the inside grass track seventeen feet out. Rainbar, moving well, went a mile in 1.451 the first six furlongs occupying 1.19 ' Sir Locket outclassed Morvi over nine furlongs in 2.3. Carpentier and Foxhow were unextended in going a mile in 1.53. At Caulfield, on the steeplechase grass, Tranquil Star beat Keelie over ten furlongs in 2.12:1, the first mile taking 1.45. Tranquil Star’s recent form has been poor, but this gallop suggests that he is getting back to his best again. Historian and Pargoon went a serviceable ten furlongs in 2.18. Skipton, on the outside, easily beat Manuerere and Romford over 6 furlongs in 1.18 Skipton is in great heart for his Guineas engagement. The Trapper beat Leicester Square by four lengths in going seven .furlongs in 1.3'01. Lanka showed that he holds his form well, by covering seven furlongs in 1.311. David Spear surprised by doing better, covering the same distance in 1.301. (Rec. 8.40) MELBOURNE, Oct. 7.
