MILLERTON NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) The matter of the conveyance ot Granity miners to and from work wa's the subject last week of a consultation between the Union President and Secretary and Messrs Conner (Trantsport Inspector, Wellington) and Hill (Westport). The mine continues to work five shifts per week. Millerton Miners Union voting in the election of a representative on the United Mine Workers’ Council was: Mr T. Muir 62; Mr. S. McCarthy (Ngakawau). 38. Miss Pearl Waring was the guest at a social at Peggie Hall when, she was tendered a presentation from the many friends present. Mr. J : . Orman made the presentation and the receipient suitably replied. Mrs T. Budd and Miss Budd won a luckyspot waltz and whilst Mr. Bennett and Miss Potter won a “monte carlo” waltz. Mrs T. Pullock and Mr. F. Plummer were the prize, winners at the whist drive of the Physical Fitness Committee last week. Millerton and Stockton Women’s Institute members were the guests or Denniston Institute on the sixth birthday of the latter last week. The Millerton Caledonian Society held a social in Peggie’s Hall when the guests of the evening were a number of members from the Couden S'ocity. Chief Strang welcomed the visitor’s, hoping that they would all have an enjoyable stay, and Chief Anderson iffitably replied. Songs were given by Mrs J. Boswell, Miss C. Strang and Mr. Richmond, Mrs R. Swan (piano). Mr McLean (violin), Messrs Beverland and Murray (accordions). Misses Shearer and Whiskeers won a “monte carlo” wfiltz. Messrs M. Tavin and Pollock were Ms’C.
