Smeaton left on Friday for Pleasant Point where Miss Smeaton will enter Stra,theona College for training. I Mrs R. Lumsden, Christchurch, is 1 the guest of Mr and Mrs W. EL Southward. ■ | Mrs H. Elowatt, Rewanui, who is an inmate of the Grey River Hospital is progressing favourably. I The Runanga Branch of the Co-op-ierative Womens’ Guild held their fortnightly meeting in the Druids’ Elall on Friday night, when a very pleasant social evening resulted. Prizes were won by Mrs J. Reynolds and Mrs P. Pollock. A dainty supper was served, after which’ community singing and dancing were indulged in, Mrs J. Reynolds being at the piano. Mrs J. Bell rendered several Scotch songs, which were much appreciated. The evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” At the monthly meeting; of the Girls’ Club, the competition for the best article to cost more than 2s was won by Miss D. Hamer. Other competitions were won by Miss N. Storie and Miss M. Clark. The usu’al fortnightly social and dance held by the Cumberland and Westmoreland Society was held on Saturday night in 'the Druids’ Hall. Prizes for whist were won by Mr F. Lee and Mrs G. Smith. Mrs F. Oakley and partner were the winners ot a Monte Carlo dance. It was decided to hold one more social evening before the season closed for the Summer, the proceeds to be donated to the Fund for Relief to Lepers. Mr C. Barrow was the winner of the aggregate whist prize for the season.
