Gore Porter (President of the Reefton R.S.A.), and were extended a cordial welcome. was provided for them at the Stationmaster's office which was lent for the occasion. Private P. E. Knowles, Rimu, who was to have accompanied them, travelled via Christchurch Waitahu Rugby League team travelled to Greymouth yesterday to may for the Thacker Shield challenge against Mans! (holders of the Shield). Though weakened bv the absence of several of its regular players. the team put up a great perionnance to hold Maiist to to points. Half way through the second spell Waitahu had drawn within one point of Marist and considerable excitement prevailed, but the holders then added three more tries to lead 20 to Jt-' at the final bellReefton Tennis Club were favoured with a glorious afternoon on Saturday for the opening of the season, and there was a large attendance. Mr. J. B. Auld (President), declaring the season open, congratulated members on the fine day. stating it was the first fine opening day for over ten__days. He stud the lawns and surroundings were the best he had ever seen them at the start of a season, and congratulated Mr. E. Elliston upon his elfective worn. Reference was made to members serving overseas and to the Club's success last season in winning the Pullar Cup. He advised members to practice as early as nossible so as to withstand the challenges of Westport Clubs for the trophy. Mr. Sharpe (Vice President), also spoke and afternoon tea was provided.
